Craig Gainsborough

Creative Producer

Craig has been Producing film for almost 10 years, and in this time has produced over 25 music videos; 350 brand films, commercials and stills campaigns; and numerous short films and documentaries. Craig's first documentary, Candles of Aotearoa, was the recipient of an award from Youth for Human Rights, which led to his completing a BComs(Hons) in Documentary Ethics focusing on the rights of participants in NGO advocacy documentary; presented in a non-linear interactive format. He then went on to graduate with a first class MA in Creative Producing at The University of Auckland. Since then Craig has produced a number of short films which have had festival success both locally and internationally, including Ten Thousand Days (dir: Michael Duignan), Tide (dir: Adam King), Thicket (dir Julian Vares) and Stay (dir: Craig Gainsborough & Luke Thornborough).

Currently Craig produces full-time at NZME as the Executive Producer, responsible for over-sighting all Producers and their productions. For the 3 years prior to taking on this role he was producing at Designworks, New Zealand's largest brand agency, where he was managing and over-sighting all video and stills production for the company as the Senior Motion and Stills Producer.

Gainsborough Films is a small production company based in Auckland, that acts as the vehicle for producer Craig Gainsborough to support creatives in film and exciting original productions. These include drama (short films and features), documentary, music videos and non-profit commercial productions.

Craig has been producing film for around 10 years, and in this time has produced over 25 music videos; 350 brand films, commercials and stills campaigns; and numerous short films and documentaries. Currently Gainsborough Films has three features in development on its slate, with Craig working on additional productions collaboratively with other NZ film industry producers.

Innovation, integrity, collaboration and bravery are the core principles of Gainsborough Films. A production must push the boundaries of creativity, reflect challenging themes, be technically daunting, and be on the fence of cutting edge technology (or some combination of the above… with story and audience first of course!).
